Prompt #2

"Evaluate whether you believe Bloom’s taxonomy is a perfect fit for teaching and learning in the 21st century, as the author contends, or if you believe it is an outdated taxonomy for the digital classroom."

I believe that Bloom's Taxonomy is still applicable to today's digital classroom. Within Bloom's ideology are the six goals of remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating. I believe that in order to use technology and do so well, one needs to use these six goals along the way. For students, this means to not only ask questions and seek answers as they use technology and the Internet but to generate follow up questions in order to dive deeper into subject matter. Using Bloom's Taxonomy means to apply what is already known to new situations in order to solve different problems, make predictions, form opinions and judgments, and think for oneself. Technology should be used to take found information to create new ideas and products. Bloom's Taxonomy, although not always termed as so, is relevant to the digital world because it allows students to work on their own, with a partner, or even in groups of all sizes to gain information, share ideas, evaluate others' findings and opinions, validate facts, create programs or projects, and do just about anything. Bloom's Taxonomy plays an extremely pertinent role both inside and outside the classroom and I believe it will continue to do so as technology changes in the future.

  1. I completely agree with you that you can still use Bloom's Taxonomy in todays world and have it aid technology. They need to use the six goals in order to research what they are looking for especially in the classroom. You use Bloom's Taxonomy to build upon knowledge and have technology also help with what you already know and what you want to know. Great response and great detail!

    1. Hi Hailee, thank you for sharing feedback on my blog post. My thought is that if Bloom's Taxonomy is readily available to educators, why not use it as best they can? Bloom's Taxonomy can be applicable to multiple subjects ranging as widely as mathematics to English. Equipped with both Bloom's Taxonomy and technology, I believe that today and tomorrow's teachers will be able to excellently teach any student.
